On October 21, I got the first peek at the new Mine & Yours store in Yaletown at an opening event held for media, Influencers and top VIP guests. I invited that one friend we all have who encourages us to spend all our money on fashion and dressed up in a checkered blazer with black jeans, riding boots, my Hermes belt and Chanel bag to pop across the street (it’s just a dangerously close half block away from my apartment).
My first impressions? The store is absolutely gorgeous, which was impressive considering I’d been closely following along on Owner & Founder Courtney Watkins’ Instagram and biting my nails as the reno just barely fell into place in time. Picture bright, white spaces, orb-like lamps, glistening sale counters, walls dedicated entirely to shoes and bags and meticulously merchandised racks of Gucci, Chanel, Balenciaga and so, so much more. I was in heaven.
Of course, I wasn’t the only one. The city’s top fashionistas and Influencers were all in attendance, and for an evening I got to forget that I was in Vancouver — the land of function over fashion — and pretend I was somewhere much more expressive, like New York City (my forever favourite place for fashion). Everywhere I looked people were dressed to impress. Sparkling silhouettes, shoes like works of art and enviable accessories fluttered around the room as the buzz of conversation and gleeful squeals of treasures found reverberated within.
Taking my own time to scour the racks, I flipped through hanger after hanger of wearable art. A few standout items included a cream Gucci turtleneck sweater, Chloe wide-leg trousers and a floral, tiered gown by Needle & Thread. Of course, the wall of designer bags was a whole other story. I played with the idea of purchasing a Gucci Nylon Hobo (only $450!), Gucci Mini Jackie and canvas Saint Laurent bag, but decided to wait until I’d sold some items of my own and had store credit (I had a buying appointment set with them for the following weekend).
That said, all’s fair in the game of purchasing your dream designer item, so I’ve decided to share a few of my favourites here with you that I highly suggest jumping on. That is, if you get to them before I do.
