Life Update: Another Day, Another Dollar

There’s something to be said for honesty, and so that’s what I’m about to do. If you’ve been reading my last few posts, you’re probably well aware that I’m embarking on a pretty big trip come December. Piece that together with a few other hints and you’ve probably concluded that, well, I don’t have a ton of spare cash.

Unlike some other bloggers and Vancouverites (and despite what my life may look like on Instagram) I’m not rich, I don’t have rich parents, and no, I am not dating a rich guy. If and when I get to the point that I’m making a solid income, great, but for now I have to watch what I put out into the world, and when I’m trying to save it takes a lot for me to part with my money. In fact, I’ve recently picked up a second, weekend job to make a little extra savings. I’m already working Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, and now I’m working Saturdays and Sundays, also 9 to 5. This is part of the reason why I’m behind on this update.

I don’t like to think of myself as lazy, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t privileged. I’m a white female in a western country — not exactly a minority — and I grew up in a middle class home with a wonderful, loving family. I was raised well and never went hungry, but I was also taught the value of a dollar, so I know how to budget and allocate my finances accordingly to make the most of what I have. This second job I’ve picked up is completely different from my first. While I’m the Executive Editor of a travel and lifestyle magazine during the week, I do food prep and packaging for a company on the side. And don’t get me wrong, the job isn’t bad at all, but this is how I’ve started spending my weekends in order to save more money towards my trip.

So this is how it’s shaping up so far: Dubai, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, possibly the Philippines, then Indonesia. Out of the six, I’ve only been to Thailand once before, so I’m both excited and nervous to experience the other countries. I can’t wait to produce tons of beautiful content, and to share with you everything I see, do, and experience. I’ll even make a few city guides if you’re interested (or a post about budgeting for travel), just let me know! In the meantime, have any of you been to any of the other countries? I’d love to hear any tips or suggestions you have. Let me know in the comments, on Instagram, or message me directly!

As for these outfit images, well, the jumpsuit reminded me a little of a mechanic’s uniform, so I thought it fit the ‘hard at work’ theme of the post.
